New Photography Page

I’ve been messing around with shooting and such. Just bought a Canon T2i, because I got sick of my iPhone camera (yeah, ya think?). I’m looking forward to shooting video with the T2i as well. I already have a Vixia HV40, but it’s MiniDV format, which means I have to capture the footage after shooting. The T2i might provide a more streamlined workflow. We’ll see.

Anyhoo, check out my photography page, if’n ya want to.

Liverpool 1, Arsenal 2: On the Bright Side

Dominant spells of possession, plenty of chances created, a handful of shots off the woodwork. A lot of hard work and commendable individual performances by Liverpool Football Club, but with no return. This seems to have summed up our entire season.

But on the bright side…

What about those chances? There was some beautiful interplay involving a number of combinations in the attacking 1/3rd. I’m seeing a deeper understanding amongst the players with every match.

> 80% Passing:
Downing completed 86% of his passes (30/35)
Hendo completed 82% of his passes (41/50)
Wee Jay (my man of the match vote) completed 82% of his passes (41/50)
Skrtel completed 82% of his passes (36/44)
Matin Kelley completed 81% of his passes (21/26)

More good stuff:
54% possession (46% for Arsenal)
38 crosses (8 for Arsenal)
12 corners (0 for Arsenal)

Oh, and Robin van Persie is signing for us in 2012/13.
Kidding. The guy is something to behold though, isn’t he? RvP’s a delight to watch.

All good stuff, but obviously what counts are balls in the back of the net. I’m convinced though, if Kenny can keep this squad together and healthy for the rest of the season and the off-season, we’ll be among the strongest contenders for Champions League qualification next term. This is a work in progress. A rebuilding. I still have patience.

I gotta admit. For someone who’s taken huge slugs of the Americana/Alt.Country cool-aid over the years, there hasn’t been much lately on the (inter)national stage to keep me as tuned-in to those sounds. (Western NY? Now that’s a different story.) [Read more...]

Norah Jones Does Country

I think I have a crush on Norah Jones. But don’t tell anyone.

Funny how in this new-fangled age of country music, the biggest breath of fresh air comes from the old-style sounds, the old-style song forms, the old-style vocal harmonies. Glad The Little Willies are keeping it alive.

New Video Soon from Mikaela Davis

Penfield native Mikaela Davis is gearing things up in preparation for her new album release. Her single and video “Dreaming” are both due out January 15.

The video is directed by Philip Night. Always good to see Western New York musical artists go the extra mile and partner with artists in related creative fields to help bring their work to life. Looking forward to the release.

Liverpool FC: 3 – Newcastle United: 1

OK, so it wasn’t a win against a Manchester United, or a Manchester City, or even a Tottenham Hotspur. But, winning against Newcastle United at Anfield tonight was crucial in order to set Liverpool Football Club back on the right track at the halfway point of the English Premier League season.

Tom Waits NPR Music Interview

Tom Waits (image source: npr.org)

As someone who’s been heavily involved for so long with the writing, production, performance and overall enjoyment of music, I’m embarrassed by how late I sometimes “come to the party”.

An example of this missing out is Tom Waits. Sure, I’ve always been aware of his name and legend, but never his music. That’s why I’m glad I stumbled across Waits’ recent NPR Music “Fresh Air” interview this morning (NPR player embedded below). [Read more...]

Liverpool 1 Blackburn 1… the Bright Side

If it’s not the woodwork getting in the way, it’s a collection of super-human saves at the opposing goal that have helped define Liverpool Football Club’s 2011/2012 season to-date. So with the last-second denial of Andy Carroll’s final goal attempt today, we’ve once again made a hero out of another Premier League ‘keeper — well done, Mark Bunn. And full credit to the beleaguered Blackburn Rovers — it was a well-earned point.

But here’s the bright side to consider after Liverpool FC’s draw to Blackburn Rovers at Anfield: [Read more...]
